The Band
Al Toribio | Dave Coey | Bevan | Bart Ferguson | Jordan Korach
Portland, Oregon's Kerosene Dream has a unique take on the
singer-songwriter form. They combine intelligent song writing
and heady harmonies with the virtuosity and spontaneity of
an improvisational "jam" band. Kerosene Dream is composed
of ex-members from three influential northwest groups: The
Strangers, The Renegade Saints and Nine Days Wonder. Bart
Ferguson and Dave Coey, who co-founded the band in 1996, share
vocal and song writing duties. They went through various personnel
changes and musical evolutions and in 1998 added a secret
weapon in former Renegade Saints guitarist, Al Toribio. At
the turn of the century they added a tight new rhythm section
of Bevan on drums and Jordan Korach on bass. Their inclusion
has turned Kerosene Dream into a fully evolved rock ån roll
band.
During the late 80's and early 90's, The Strangers, Renegade
Saints and Nine Days Wonder were leaders of the Northwest
groove-rock scene, collectively selling more than 35,000 albums.
The Saints and Strangers were brothers in arms, often meeting
up on their non-stop, West of the Mississippi touring schedules.
After shows Coey and Ferguson would joke about moonlighting
in a band where they could write and perform more roots-based
music. In early 1996 when their bands dissolved, Ferguson
called Coey and prodded: "remember that side project? Let's
do it for real!" After a few exploratory gigs they began playing
around Portland, releasing an acoustic EP in October of 1996.
Since then the group has evolved into a compelling acoustic-pop-jam-rock
quintet. They released their second album, "From the Sundown
Sky", in November 1997 and their third "Such is Life" in September
of 99.
Kerosene Dream developed their strong word-of-mouth following
by doing what they know best, performing dynamic live shows.
They have played with the likes of The Barenaked Ladies, Ben
Harper, Blues Traveler, Heart, Little Feat, Melissa Etheridge,
Mickey Hart, The String Cheese Incident, and the 1998 Horde
Festival.
